2013 | Best Moments

I know I was MIA for pretty much all of 2013, but it was a great year! So in an effort to update you on what I’ve been up to as well as say goodbye to a great year, here are my top moments from 2013 (in somewhat sequential order).

Our trip to North Carolina to see snow in February.  What an adventure!  We drove through the night and were unable to check-in to our B&B when we got into town so we “freshened up” in a gas station bathroom and went exploring. Not only did it snow while we were there but we went snow tubing and hiking and stayed in the cutest little bed and breakfast thanks to a gift from some wonderful friends!

photo(2)I was officially “promoted” from junior designer to Interior Designer at my job and had the opportunity to work with some wonderful clients!

Through my promotion, I gained a great friend in my design partner, Jen who has been such a blessing in my life over this past year.

We were able to have another little getaway in the summer and took a spur-of-the-moment cruise to the Bahamas for a long weekend.

photo(15)This made us remember how much we love cruises so we took another week-long cruise with the best travel buddies to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Grand Turk in October.

I got my second and final tattoo to celebrate 7 years of marriage and many more years of love with Jason.

I got two new, beautiful nieces.

Happy New Year, friends!

Introductions | Meet Jen

Design is ever-evolving and sometimes we [humans] are not…we get stuck in a rut or get comfortable with the same things.  When this happens with a designer, their designs can go a little flat….not terrible, just dull…with room for improvement.  And it’s hard, sometimes, to stay on top of all of the latest trends and know what’s in and what’s out.  You feel like you’ve just gotten the hang of using a particular style in a cool way…or you love something so much you want to use it over and over and then all of the sudden…BAM! it’s not “current” anymore and there’s something else that’s all-the-rage.  It can be daunting!

In my experience, design, I mean good design, is often a collaboration.  It goes back to the old adage “two heads are better than one”.  Nobody’s perfect.  We all have different strengths and weaknesses. And it seems to me that we all have a little room for improvement. So when there’s another person there to bounce ideas off of, provide their own spin on things and offer experiences from a life that’s different than your own, it just makes the design better.

Meet Jen.

Jen is my design partner.  She’s also a mom of two adorable little boys, an amazing artist, a lover of nature and animals, a part-time comedian (kidding! but I do think she’s pretty hilarious) and all-around great person to work with.

I wanted to introduce you to Jen for a couple of reasons. One: you’ll be seeing more of her [and her work] on Bungalow.  She’s constantly creating things and you need to see them…I just have to get her to slow down enough to take some decent pictures!

And two: she has a great blog of her own that’s worth reading.  I already mentioned that she’s hilarious but you’ve GOT to meet her boys.  The Donovan Boys is all about her seemingly usual experiences with two little ones that somehow turn unusual, fast (can anybody relate?!).  Be sure to check it out!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  Look for more of Jenna & Jen in 2014!

a milestone

Today my Mom was honored for serving as a nurse for 35 years!  Someone joked with her saying, “so you started when you were 5, right!?”

The time she has spent helping others has flown by so fast.  She’s been a nurse for my entire life and I’ve never imagined her doing anything different.  Despite my perceptions that the time has gone quickly, I can’t even imagine the depths of her sadness, having to witness (and sometimes carry) the pain of others, or the victories she’s delighted in when the sick are cured.  It takes a strong person to be a nurse… and amazing perseverance and tenacity to be so strong for so long.

The celebration was quite lovely–a high tea.

Even though this was what I shared with my Mom for Nurse Appreciation Day, it is something I am proud to share every day:

“Thank you for over 30 years of service as a nurse-for placing the needs of others before your own, for being willing to provide care to hurting friends, family, and even acquaintances, and for kissing my boo-boos & bandaging my scrapes. You are a wonderful mom and nurse and I am lucky to have you!”

he’s here!

He’s here!  Little Hudson was born yesterday at 5:04 pm!  When I say little, I mean little– 6 lbs. 13 oz., 20 inches long.

Needless to say, I am one proud aunt.

Hopefully he likes his mobile 🙂

Have a great weekend!
